Critiques
BIS Critique
It is always a great honour to be invited to judge Best In Show at a breed club championship show but it can also be with some trepidation that you accept too. The dogs competing for the top awards may not be exactly what you would have put up in the breeds had you been judging. However, today I was delighted with the quality sent through by the three breed judges. Thank you NSC for a lovely day.
BEST IN SHOW the very handsome Mini male Bell and Burns CH Glockens Let It Be JW
Having judged this chap just over 12 months ago at the club show and awarded him the Res CC it was lovely having the opportunity to go over him again. He is practically everything you would want in a Miniature Schnauzer, being compact, robust and nearly square His head is textbook, with the neatest of ears which he uses to best advantage. The extra 12 months on him have given him that added maturity in both body and mind. He really put in a faultless performance today and he was rightly rewarded with the highest award . I will also add what I wrote in his critique from 12 months ago…presented faultlessly by one of the best in the business
RESERVE BEST IN SHOW
Descere CH Amorevita Neris of Fortune. This black Mini girl was my BOB from my Club show winners 12 months ago. She came into the ring to challenge for RBIS today, and just blew away the opposition. She was fabulous last year and I had no reason to change my opinion of her today. As always in immaculate coat and body condition. She knows she is great and she really is. Thoroughly enjoyed getting my hands on her again.
BEST PUPPY IN SHOW
Lewington Dark Design Grand Calvera (Imp CZE) Such a confident black Schnauzer male of 11 months. I have loved him since I first saw him almost 6 months ago. So well balanced, looks great on the move and really powers around the ring. In good coat and body. He should have a very good future ahead of him. The Mini puppy pushed him hard for the top honour, but was giving away such a lot in age, he too is destined for good future I am sure.
BEST VETERAN IN SHOW
Watson CH Jalero Miss Iowher Well where do I start? At almost 12 years, this Schnauzer bitch is an absolute credit to her devoted owner and the breed. She has come back into the ring after a break of I think 5 years, as if she has never been away. In fact I think she has returned looking better than ever before. She really is the complete package. She moved as if she was on a mission and really could not be denied her award. A delight to watch her sheer enjoyment back doing what she clearly enjoys so much.

Miniature Schnauzer Critique
I offer my sincere thanks to the Officers & Committee of the NSC for their invitation to judge at their championship show. Their welcome and hospitality was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to my two stewards, Sue and Rob McGrann, for keeping the ring running smoothly and efficiently and to the exhibitors for their super entry and sportsmanship with my decisions on the day. Overall, there was some good quality in the breed and on the day, I found that the bitches had more depth of quality within their classes. Coats were generally good in texture and presentation of exhibits was superb. I was really pleased with my overall and place winners.

2nd Klee’s Bagmed Steffi Graf, eleven-year-old bitch looking well for her age. Nice head shape and soft expressive eyes, not really at one with her handler today who couldn’t get the best out of her.
Special Black Dog/Bitch
1st Carver’s Oldbashurst Time To Shine JW. I liked her Head and dark expressive eyes, good length and arching neck with a well laid shoulder. Good forechest, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Correct tail set. Liked her rear with low hocks and moved freely round the ring.
2nd Moorcroft’s Amorevita Uranus JW.
3rd Krieger’s Schnaustar Black Pearl
Special White Dog/Bitch
1st Williams’ Saraswati Bonno Blue with Lyzahro (Imp MKD).
2nd Gill’s Wallensis Of The Outlaws.
3rd Mellor’s Lyzahro White Here White Now
Giant Schnauzer Critique
My grateful thanks to the NSC for putting on a very welcoming champ show. Newark is a very dog friendly venue. Having not judged for some time and not having been around shows I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised as my entry was excellent for breed type especially in the females. Keep up the good work people your breed needs you.
Baby Puppy Dog
1st Staples Avicci Ve Fi (Imp CZE) (taf) Black and silver with a lovely clean long head with darkest of eyes. Well off for bone and substance, decent enough shoulder and upper arm with moderate forechest. Correct slightly sloping croup and tailset. He is clean moving in front and needs to strengthen in the rear as to be expected at this age. A nice baby which I’m sure will help bl/silvers going forward.
Puppy Dog
1st Lowood-Price’s Adreana Jagermeister. Big strong puppy of 9 months. Good clean head of correct proportions. Correct dark eye. Short backed with excellent lay of shoulder. Moderate upper arm and fill in front. Tremendous bone and tight feet. Correct croup and tailset. Has long steps in profile movement, just needs to tighten coming and going, which is to be expected at this age. Coat of good texture, just a little wavy.
Junior Dog
1st Parker’s Draxpark Face The Chaser. Black dog of medium size. Typical head with lovely dark eye, moderate length of neck flowing nicely into well laid shoulder and firm level topline with good croup and tailset. He has a good length of upper arm and excellent chest and breastbone with corresponding rear angulation. Proper harsh straight jacket all over. Just wasn’t cooperating on the move.
2nd Urbanowska’s Snakesbury Gibbs. A taller male with a good head of typical proportions and dark eye. Moderate length of upper arm. He is short backed with well set tail, he has moderate angulation fore and aft with some forechest. Held his shape on the move and moves cleanly coming and going. Good jacket.
Open Dog
1st Descere, Descere & Pearce’s Stablemaster’s Twist (Imp FIN). Upstanding black with a quality head piece of correct proportions and level planes. Moderate length of neck flowing into short sloping topline with correct croup and tailset. He has a great length of upper arm which is correctly angulated so stands with his front legs under his body as they should do. He has a correspondingly angulated rear, so it is no surprise that this dog comes into his own on the move which is a joy to watch. Has a harsh jacket. He doesn’t make life easy for his handler being a real fidget. I’m sure this dog will continue to improve. CC
2nd Lunt’s Tribune Vom Schloss Ehrenberg At Lourane. Short backed dog of great substance, masculine head of correct proportions and dark eye. Lovely neck and carriage leading to a well laid shoulder and correct slightly sloping topline and excellent croup and rear angulation which gives a great driving action. He is filled in front but I would like a bit more upper arm. Excellent coat texture. RCC
Minor Puppy Bitch
1st Velhino & Donley’s Echodream Sunlight. Beautifull shape, short backed, typical head with excellent planes and darkest of eyes. Moderate length of neck flowing into decent shoulder and slightly sloping topline. She has a very good forechest for age and correct angulation of her upper arm and unsurprisingly moved beautifully with long steps, correct moderate rear angulation and beautiful tail carriage. Pushed the ticket winner hard and was a close decision. RCC. RBOB. BPIB
Puppy Bitch
1st George & Reeves Adreanna Tribute To Dasval. Another nice puppy of excellent type. Classic head and expression. Very feminine with good shoulders and slightly sloping topline and tailset, nicely angulated fore and aft. Correct typical coat. Movement was free, easy and balanced. A bright future I think.
2nd Lowood-Price’s Adreanna Forever Golden. More substantial than 1 and a nice shape with classic head. Nicely angulated with well filled front and sloping topline. Too much coat for me which detracts from her type. Couldn’t match 1 on the move.
Junior Bitch
1st Parker’s Draxpark Celebrity Chase. Another young female of great breed type with a super typical jacket, straight and harsh. Good head with dark eyes and level planes. Strong neck leading to well laid shoulders and short hard topline with high set tail. At 13 months she still has plenty of growing to do but she’s all there for her age.
Limit Bitch
1st Parker’s Draxpark Crown Jewel. Yet another female of super breed type. She has a very lovely head with a wicked dark eye, a quality head of correct proportions. Strong neck flowing into well laid shoulders, slightly sloping topline with correctly set tail. Great forechest with legs set under the body as they should be, because she has a great length of upper arm and corresponding rear angulation allowing to move beautifully with long steps. Very mature and covered in the most lovely jacket, “like a yard brush”. A little exuberant at times. CC. BOB
2ND Cox’s Primavista Lemony Lace. Honest girl of good type and quality head was clean with dark eye. She’s well-made but just didn’t want to be there today.
Open Bitch
1st Velhino & Donley’s Echodream Cleopatra. Another shapely female of good breed type. Keen head and expression with dark eyes. Good shoulders, short back, bang on tailset. Good forechest and upper arm and is well angulated behind. Her jacket is correct and she is unexaggerated, she moves soundly and is a good quality girl.
