Many thanks to the Society for the Invitation to Judge Best in Show, and to my two very efficient Stewards. BIS was the Miniature Bitch Descere – AmorevitaSpice It Up, very smart just rising two loved her head and expression well set ears and clean neck and shoulders.  Good bone and feet great body properties with good spring of rib, strong top line and excellent quarters.  Moved out well with good reach and sufficient drive. Reserve I called in the Miniature BOS Braithwaite – CH/ Wellingley Won For the Road, I have seen this youngster ringside as he has had a spectacular during his short career and I believe has several Group Placings.  Bang on for size and balance, masculine head with excellent pigmentation nice angulation front and rear, deep well made body firm topline and good tail set.  Moved with drive and looks good in profile. Best Puppy was the Giant Veal – Hiloma Houdini, raw baby with so much to like very elegant but with the required substance.  He was a little naughty but forgave this as he shows much promise. Head developing well, great front and feet.  Well laid shoulder and depth to body, he scores in hind angulation which reflects in his action going  away.  When he settles he should do very well. Best Veteran the Miniature Parker, Saunders & McDonald – CH/ Silversocks Shot in the Dark with. Violis, Just into Veteran and in first rate order.  Super balance to head with dark eyes and lovely expression.  Enough neck and nicely angulated front assembly, scores in Vance with excellent quarters.  Looks great when stacked and moved out smartly fore and aft.  Can still trouble the best for major awards.

I’d like to thank the committee of The Northern Schnauzer Club for giving me my first ever appointment to judge Schnauzers at a championship show. As always, the show was very well run and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

I had a lovely entry of well presented Schnauzers which made decisions very difficult at times. Although this is my first time awarding CCs in Schnauzers, there were a few observations I wanted to mention – I was struck by the fact that the dogs here today were generally quite even in type and conformation, no soft coats, generally about square in profile, dark eyes, nicely proportioned heads… etc, which is what the breed standard is about after all. But quite often it was down to miniscule differences and my own personal preference that was the deciding factor  – maybe a slightly incorrect bite, or a tad close behind going away, or the need for a little more drive on the move.  Along with dogs full of confidence, there were some not so forthcoming, and also some cheeky exhibits full of character,  at the end of the day, I am sure all of them are a joy to live with. I would like to thank all exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs, their sportsmanship for my choices, and for making my day so enjoyable.

I’d also like to thank my wonderful steward, Colin Langan, who kept order and everything running smoothly in the ring.

Puppy Dog (2)

1. MOORE’s Odivane Brotherhood Of Man. 11 month pepper/salt. First impression was of a strong dog almost square in stature. He had a lovely head of good proportions, neat ears, dark eyes and alert expression.  A strong neck flowed nicely into well laid shoulders and slightly sloping top line to a great tail set. Decent depth to chest for age, with fill and forechest. Nice harsh jacket. He seemed to be a confident boy on the move, moving with balance and purpose from all angles. My pick for BPIB and RDCC. Interesting to see later that he has the same sire as my DCC.
2. SUTHERLAND’s Rugtara Crossing The Try Line. 11 month pepper/salt. Another lovely puppy. A little shorter in the loin than 1, giving him a nice outline. His head had good length and width, with dark eyes, correct bite and well set ears. He had a strong neck set well onto shoulders and topline. Lovely harsh banded jacket. Good angulation front and back, moved well with reach and drive in profile.

Junior Dog (1)

1. DAVIES’ Agbelladon Constantine with Myrtlemagic. 15 month pepper/salt. My first impression was an almost square dog with a good jacket. He had a nice head of good length and decent head planes. His dark eyes giving an alert and cheeky expression. He wasn’t giving his owner an easy time. I would have preferred a bit more chest at the front, but it had good depth. He was steady and balanced on the move in profile and straight moving out and back.

Post Graduate Dog (1)

1. RAILTON’s Lefenix Me Myself And I. 18 month pepper/salt. A lovely boy that looked very balanced, nicely angulated and almost square in profile. He had an alert expression with a bit of adolescent attitude and confidence. He had a nice masculine head of good length and proportions, dark eyes, neat ears and correct bite. A moderately long and strong neck well set into laid back flat shoulders,  slightly sloping topline and a well set tail. He was well presented with a lovely harsh jacket. I thought he moved better in the challenge than he did in class, had plenty of reach and drive in profile, and was straight going away and coming back. My DCC and RBoB pick.

Open Dog (2)

1. LOCKYER’s Miccosukees Oklahoma. 2.5 year old pepper/salt. This boy was a little shorter in the loin than previous exhibits, with a well set neck and sloping topline. He had a well proportioned head with dark eyes and nice ear set. Lovely jacket that was harsh, wiry and banded. Great depth to chest, but would have preferred at little more at the front. He was nicely balanced front and back on the move if a little slow.
2. LOCKYER’s Miccosukees Look At Me. 4 year old pepper/salt. He was a little longer than 1, but had a nice neck and topline. Lovely masculine head with good planes and proportions. Keen dark eyes and neat ears. Would have liked a little more angulation front and back. He was quite purposeful and spritely on the move.

Champion Dog (1)

1. LEWINGTON’s Dark Design Leebren Grand Calvera (Imp CZE) 2 year old black. He was a nicely proportioned dog, almost square in profile. Well balance masculine head , with alert expression and dark eyes, well set ears and correct bite. He had a moderately strong neck flowing well into topline, and nicely set on tail. Lovely harsh jacket. I liked his angulation front and back, along with a good depth to his chest and plenty of forechest. I would have preferred a little more vigour and drive on the move, which sort of let him down on the day.

Veteran Dog (2/ 1 abs)

1. MATHER’s Danelbeks Arthur Mo. 7.5 year old pepper/salt. This boy had quite a slope to his topline in profile. However he had a lovely masculine head of good length and breadth, dark expressive eyes and neat ears. Lovely coat with harsh texture.  He had good depth to his chest, a little upright at the front, but moved well with purpose and drive.

Puppy Bitch (3)

1. MAIDEN’s Maidluns Angel Of Mine. 10 month pepper/salt.  A nice little girl, well proportioned and giving a pleasing almost square profile. I liked the set on of her neck into her shoulders and topline. She had a pretty feminine head with dark expressive eyes, neat ears and correct bite. A decent depth of chest and forechest for age, was nicely angled front and rear and was very balanced on the move.
2. JOHNSON’s Lefenix Northern Star. 8 month pepper/salt. She is very much a baby still and learning the ropes. Had a similar well proportioned profile as 1 when she stood still. Lovely well proportioned head with dark eyes. Nicely arched neck of moderate length set well into shoulder. She was well presented  with a lovely harsh jacket. A happy footed puppy on the move. I like her potential.

Junior Bitch (3/1 abs)

1. STACEY’s Dovahdoks Craving The Love.  12 months pepper/salt. A pretty feminine girl giving a leggier profile. Another lovely head with good head planes, dark eyes, keen expression and neat set ears if a little large at this stage. She was presented with a lovely harsh banded jacket. I liked her vigorous and free movement with balance in profile, and straight out and back.
2. MOORE’s Odivane Just A Kid. 16 month pepper/salt. She was a pretty girl and had a lovely dark iron grey colour to her harsh coat, but seemed a little nervous which affected her profile and movement. Having said that, she had a lovely proportioned head with dark eyes and neat ear set. She was well conditioned and her angulation looked good front and rear. Deep chested with a decent forechest. Would love to see her with a bit more confidence.

Post Graduate Bitch (2)

1. RAILTON’s Miccosukees I Am Here with Lefenix. 19 month pepper/salt. Another quality girl with a nice profile, moderately  strong neck flowing well into topline. Good angulation at the rear, but maybe a bit upright at the front, good depth to chest but would have liked a bit more fill. Well proportioned head with dark eyes full of mischief and attitude. Attitude carried her around the ring with confidence and balance.
2. MATHER’s Miccosukees Dream Girl to Danelbeks. 2.5 year old pepper/salt. Another square girl with a lovely harsh coat.    A well proportioned head with dark eyes and neat ears. Good front assembly with plenty of forechest and fill. Would like her to have held her top line a bit more on the move.

Limit Bitch (4)

1. WAWRZENIEC’s Wyggyfuzz Arete. 2.5 year old pepper/salt. She might have been a little longer in the loin than some, but she was a solid and robust looking girl in profile. A strong neck was set well into shoulder, and flowing to slightly sloping topline. I liked her strong but feminine head of good length and breadth, with dark eyes and neat ears. Well conditioned with a nice front assembly and good angulation at the back. She was a little spooked by the doors banging on the move in class, but pulled it out of the bag  and was more settled in the challenge, moving purposely with vigour, reach and drive from all angles – My RBCC pick.
2. MORGAN’s Leebren Midnight Star at Hexenmeister. 4.5 year old black. She was nicely proportioned in profile with flowing topline and good tail set. Pretty feminine head with alert expression and dark eyes. Plenty of depth to chest and decent forechest with fill. Good harsh texture to coat. Would have liked to see a little more drive from behind on the move.

1. LEWINGTON’s Ciao Bella Leebren Grand Calvera (Imp CZE) 2.5 year old black . I liked this girl at first sight. First impression was a well conditioned girl, almost square in stature. Slightly arched neck flowed well into top line, a nice high tail set carried well on the move. She had a strong but feminine head with alert expression in her dark eyes. Great angulation front and back, with plenty of depth to chest and strong breast bone. Moved well in profile with reach and drive, and was straight front and back moving out. Nearly fluffed it in the challenge!  My pick for BCC, BOB
2. MOORE’s Odivane Sister Act. 5.5 year old pepper/salt. I’ve watched this girl from the side of the ring before and liked her style. Good angulation front and back. Good depth of chest and decent forechest. Nice hard coat.  A bit unsure of herself on the day and not showing to her best

1. LEWINGTON’s Taru Leebren Grand Calvera. 4.5 year old black. I first saw this girl as a puppy, and what a lovely girl she has grown into. Almost square in stature with a nice flow from neck into topline with a great tail set. Nice feminine head with dark eyes and neat ears. Good angulation front and back with a strong forechest and decent depth. Moved well but would have liked a little more drive from behind.
2. MOORE’s Odivane Girl On Fire. 2 year old pepper/salt. Another lovely feminine girl with plenty of body and condition. Her slightly arched neck flowed well into top line giving a pleasing profile.  Good depth to chest with fill and strong breastbone. She had a well proportioned feminine head with dark eyes and neat ears and set. Generally seemed a little nervous when going over her, and uncertain on the move.

First impression was of a well balanced almost square girl, with good angulation and visible forechest. She was very friendly and confident as I was going over her. Lovely head planes, dark intelligent eyes and neat ears. Stepped out well with reach and drive. My pick for BV.
2. WATSON’s Miccosukees Guess Who at Jalero. 8 year old pepper/salt. Another nice old lady giving a pleasing profile. A bit longer in the loin than 1, but also had good depth to chest and forechest. Nice feminine head with keen expression. Lovely harsh banded jacket. Was spritely on the move with reach and drive.
