Northern Schnauzer Club Fun Day July 19th 2009 |

We had a great day out at the Longdens Farm near Doncaster on Sunday. It was organised by the Northern Schnauzer Club and it was a great success. Even the weather held out, barring a couple of showers but not enough to dampen everyones' fun - and the showers helped fill the paddling pool, more of that later!
There was a very good turnout with a lot of families coming with their pet dogs of all shapes and sizes - mostly of the Schnauzer variety but I did see a Chocolate Lab too. Milly, Merlin and I had a great place to watch what was going on - we could see people at the Club Shop, buying raffle tickets at the tombola, buying some very nice wooden carvings of all things Schnauzer and we could smell the fantastic barbecue.
However, our favourite thing was the ducks swimming in a paddling pool right in front of us. 
I was the closest and got poked on the nose a few times with one of the fishing rods things! Children (and some adults) came to try and fish them out of the pool with fishing rods and when they did they won prizes for it. Great fun! So when we got out for a walk Merlin jumped into the pool and got a duck - he didn't get a prize though as I think that was classed as cheating....
We believe that the barbecue and all the food was excellent but we didn't actually try any of it ourselves, though we did get some nice jumbones and other treats. I saw the plateful that Pete had and it looked fantastic - he didn't notice my 'hungry eyes' or hear my tummy rumbling though.
There were lots of games going on to, musical chairs, egg and spoon races and the best was where sausages were hidden and the dogs had to find them and eat them - what a good game for a dog! But before they were ready to start the race a big Schnauzer ran on to the course and started to eat the sausages - well no-one told him he had to have a human on the end of a lead and he had to start at the start-line. How was he supposed to know!
At the end they had a fancy dress competition (we all hid at the back of our cages as I can remember being dressed up as a reindeer once - very embarrassing but we really liked the three schnauzers (2 minis and a giant) dressed as Mexicans, they were so cool! They had sombreros and guitars and everything. Now that should have been us!
Well that's me signing off. We had a great day and I am looking forward to next year's Fun Day - and I want to go in that SAUSAGE RACE!!
